Fort Belknap Tribal Chairman Joe McConnell is serving on the state task force charged with recommending boundaries, uses and recreation and tourism issues in the new Missouri Breaks monument. Interior Secretary Gale Norton has asked several state officials to suggest boundary and other changes to national monuments. Gov. Judy Martz appointed the group to develop recommendations for the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument, designated by President Clinton in January. Martz set an Aug. 15 deadline for the recommendations which will be based on comments from three public hearings and presented to Norton Sept. 1. Other members are Rep. Matt McCann, D- Harlem, Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Hobson, Choteau County Commissioner Harvey Worall, Fergus County Commissioner Carl Seilstad and Phillips County Commissioner Carol Kienenberger.
