Former Mescalero Apache president dies


A former tribal leader of the Mescalero Apache tribe has died. Carleton Naiche-Palmer died Saturday at a hospital in El Paso. He was 63. Naiche-Palmer was elected president of the tribe, a position he had sought in the past, in November 2007. He took office in early 2008, but was replaced two years later by current president Mark Chino.
