While the community is constructing its new casino in the Menominee Valley in Milwaukee, an equally important building was topped out May 9. Work began on the new Health and Wellness Clinic on the top of a hill near Crandon in the fall of 1999. The new, $10 million, 42,000-square-foot building will replace an overcrowded facility. There will be a medical staff of two doctors, four nurse practitioners, two dentists, an endodontist, an optometrist and a pharmacist and support staff of nurses, community health workers, physical and speech therapists, radiologists and lab and medical records technicians. There also will be a complete Behavioral Health staff to provide outreach services and therapy. Health and Wellness Director Dori Shawano said the building should be open for business in the fall. "This facility will help provide medical services for all of Forest County, giving us an economy of scale to be able to provide more advanced services to our primary clients, the Forest County Potowatomi."
