A year ago, Indian Health Service gave its senior official in charge of property management a $13,000 bonus, despite the fact that millions in equipment has been lost or stolen within the agency since 2004. In June 2008, the Government Accountability Office reported that almost 5,000 items worth $15.8 million - from all-terrain vehicles and Jaws of Life equipment to laptops and computers - were missing or stolen within Indian Health Services from fiscal years 2004 through 2007.
