Leaders of the band should not allow the director of the Snowbird community center, who was fired for mishandling funds, to be reinstated, some residents say. Bucky Brown was recently fired after an internal audit found that he received about $1,800 wages from Graham County while working on the tribe's time and approved purchases totaling $16,000 without obtaining competitive bids. Brown, who was convicted in 1991 for misdemeanor charges of defrauding the state Employment Security Commission, was reinstated by an appeals committee. Vice Chief Carroll Crowe said the appeal committee's decision was not official because the committee had not filed a report with the tribe. Crowe also said the tribe followed its law by allowing Brown to appeal the termination decision. No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the community center audit.
