Dine’ Hip-Hop Artist Writtyn: The Next America’s Got Talent Star?

Is Writtyn America's Got Talent next Native Hip-Hop star?

Kari Denny-Flynn AKA "Writtyn" is a Dine’ hip-hop artist and motivational speaker who has just been asked to audition for an appearance on the popular television show, America’s Got Talent.

Writtyn, who says she will be auditioning on December 3rd in Phoenix, Arizona told ICTMN the show’s producers contacted her after watching some of her YouTube videos.

“They told me that they found my music on YouTube and loved that I am deeply into my culture and that I use my music to get out to the youth in a positive way. And they would love to have me represent that way,” she said. Producers have also awarded her a coveted “front of the line ticket.”

Born in Monument Valley, Utah and raised in Kayenta, Az as one of an adopted pair of twin sisters, she started writing poetry at 14 and eventually put her words to music. After struggling with alcohol and drugs and dropping out of school, she turned her life around and went back to graduate.

She now performs her music, helps to manage other artists and is a motivational speaker who focuses on bringing awareness to drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.

Her music is being played by radio stations all over Indian Country, including KWSO 91.9 FM Warm Springs Oregon, KUYI 88.1 Hopi Radio, WMNF 88.5 Tampa Florida, Thunder Cloud Radio, RPM Radio Canada, KRCL 90.9, KZUM and more.

Writtyn says she has been practicing daily and is hopeful for a successful audition.“I feel humbled, blessed and excited to represent my culture.”
