Deadline pushed back for congressional approval of Indian trust suit

The deadline to secure settlement funding for a long-running Indian trust lawsuit has been pushed back again. April 16 is the new deadline for Congress to sign off on a $3.4 billion settlement to a 13-year class-action lawsuit agreed upon in December. The figure includes $1.4 billion to pay Individual Indian Money account holders for trust land mismanagement. A lead plaintiff was Elouise Cobell of the Blackfeet Tribe.
