A Pendleton man has been shot and killed in what police are calling a hunting accident. Lamont Hammons, 35, was killed Dec. 2 by a bullet from his uncle's gun during a hunting trip near Meacham, on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Hammons and his uncle, 57-year-old Darrel Kipp, came upon a herd of about 50 elk around 6:30 a.m. Kipp fired at the elk from a steep hillside while Hammons was standing in a deep ravine below him, said tribal police chief Ron Harnden.
