Delores Pigsley has been re-elected as the chairman of the Siletz. The Keizer resident has led the tribal council every year since 1984 except 1997 and 1998. "My aspirations were to be a councilor, not chairman, but it ended up that way,'' Pigsley said. "I enjoy every bit of it.'' The nine-member council governs the 3,400-member tribe by adopting laws and policies. It authorizes the tribe's budgets and investments and oversees the tribe's Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City. The council's ongoing challenge is to maintain the current level of health care and other services it provides to members, Pigsley said, including employment assistance, housing and education programs, cultural enrichment and an elders program.
