Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council

The officers of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council who have served the past two years have been re-elected by acclamation. Fred Matt will continue as chairman, Jami Hamel as vice chair, Carole Depoe Lankford as secretary, and Lloyd Irvine as treasurer. The election and swearing-in of all council members, including one newly elected member, occurred during the constitutionally mandated first quarterly meeting of the new year at the tribal complex here. More than 70 people attended the ceremony. The public election of officers was a formality. As has been the custom for several years, the Tribal Council met privately before Friday to determine who would serve in the leadership posts. Matt said the custom began after a public nomination and contest for election of officers at a quarterly meeting resulted in considerable debate and repeated tie votes for council chairman.
