Confederate Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Indian Nation, Washington
Officials of the Yakama Nation museum in Toppenish will recognize the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, but will not celebrate. Marilyn Malatare, curator of the Yakama Nation Cultural Heritage Center, said a lot of Native people don't believe it should be celebrated. The tribal museum will use a $30,000 federal grant to identify changes and the impact of settlers who followed the explorers nearly 200 years ago.
