CAMP VERDE, Ariz. – Hit or Stand? Aces High or Aces Low?

Blackjack or “21” is the most popular casino game in the world. Also known by the names Vingt-et-un (French for 21), or Pontoon, the first written reference to the game can be found in books by Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, circa 1601.

Would you like to try it on for size or already have some experience as a player but would like to learn more? Cliff Castle Casino is offering free Blackjack lessons daily on the casino floor at 10 a.m. and noon for guests to learn basic Blackjack rules and strategy; $3 Blackjack will also be available every day.

“This is a great opportunity to learn how to play a fascinating Las Vegas-style table game with a long history in a friendly atmosphere,” said Tony Averitt, director of marketing. “Blackjack is played the world over – but our accessible dealers set us apart and make great teachers.”

In casino blackjack, the dealer faces one to six players from behind a kidney-shaped table. Each player plays his hand independently against the dealer. At the beginning of each round, the player places a bet in and receives an initial hand of two cards. The object of the game is to get a higher card total than the dealer, but without going over 21.

The standard Blackjack game in America is played with decks containing 52 cards. The basic rules of the game involve adding the value of an initial two card hand in hopes of being dealt a value of 21.

If an amount less than 21 is dealt, the player may choose to be dealt single cards until they either reach a value of 21, reach a value they feel comfortable to play, or reach a value that exceeds 21. The winner holds a hand with a value equaling 21, or the nearest number to 21 without exceeding it.
