Eighteen nation firefighters were sent to help battle a wildfire in the Kitsachie National Forest in Louisiana, the tribe said. The Cherokee crews joined Creek Nation firefighters at the forest near Alexandria, La. The fire was approximately 1,000 acres in size July 21. The firefighters concentrated on protecting private land near the forest boundary.
