Cherokee Citizen Canaan Duncan Named to Oklahoma 30 Under 30 List

Cherokee Nation citizen and Government Relations employee Canaan Duncan was named to the 4th annual iON Oklahoma 30/30 Next Gen class.

Cherokee Nation citizen and Government Relations employee Canaan Duncan was named to the 4th annual iON Oklahoma 30/30 Next Gen class.

30/30 Next Gen recognizes the next generation of innovative, creative and inspiring Oklahomans under the age of 30 who push the boundaries beyond their years in areas such as arts, entertainment, business, media, sports, technology, government and more.

“Being named to the 4th annual 30/30 Next Gen class is very humbling,” Duncan said. “Representing the Cherokee Nation and all of the great things we are able to do for our citizens and the citizens of Oklahoma is truly an honor, and I hope to continue to be a part of moving our tribe forward in the years to come.”

At the awards dinner Thursday in Oklahoma City, former Congressman Dan Boren addressed the honorees and encouraged each of them to continue to strive for success. Honorees also received a crystal plaque at the banquet and will be profiled in iON Oklahoma Online.

"Canaan possesses so many of the qualities we want to see in our young people: he's courteous, works hard and leads by example. We are very proud of him," said Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr.

A panel of business and civic leaders selected Duncan and the 29 other honorees from more than 160 submitted nominations.
