The nation's planned General Council meeting scheduled Jan. 23 was postponed. Chief Gilbert Blue sent tribal members a letter telling them that a new draft of the tribal constitution is not ready. The meeting, which would be the first in two years, was also to include the taking of nominations for elections and voting on the new constitution. Blue said the draft should be completed by Jan. 30 and will be mailed by Feb. 5. That would allow tribal members to vote on the document on March 9 and 10, Blue wrote. The 1993 Catawba Settlement Agreement requires that tribal members be given 30 days to review a proposed draft.
