Academy of Country Music nominates Mohegan Sun

Award ceremony to be broadcast May 18 on CBS

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Mohegan Sun announced that the board of directors for the Academy of Country Music has placed Mohegan Sun as a final nominee in the ''Casino of the Year'' category for 2007.

This marks the fourth time that Mohegan Sun has been nominated for the award, which it won in 2005.

Paul Munick, senior vice president of sports and entertainment, said: ''Mohegan Sun is very honored to be acknowledged once again by the ACM. We were thrilled to win the award back in 2005 and hope to regain the title again this year. Country music has been a mainstay of Mohegan Sun's concert calendar in the past, and will continue to be in the future, with superstars like Kenny Chesney, Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss [appearing with Robert Plant] in the months and weeks ahead.''

The nomination arrives on the heels of Mohegan Sun Arena placing No. 5 in Billboard Magazine's worldwide survey of concert attendance for 2007.

Mohegan Sun has hosted several of this year's ACM Award participants, including event emcee Reba McEntire and numerous nominees, including Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Big & Rich and Taylor Swift. Kenny Chesney, who leads the nominations this year with 11, will be kicking off his Poets and Pirates Tour in Mohegan Sun Arena April 18 and 19.

The nominees this year also include many musicians who have been inducted into the Mohegan Sun Walk of Fame: Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts and Martina McBride, and even the rock group Bon Jovi (nominated for ''Vocal Event of the Year'' for their collaboration on ''Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore'' with LeAnn Rimes).

The ACM is based in Burbank, Calif., and honors performers and professionals of the country music industry through its organization of more than 4,000 members. The 2007 awards ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS May 18. Mohegan Sun is one of five nominees for the award, competing against Casino Rama Resort in Orilla, Ontario; Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant, Mich.; Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y.; and Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev.
