California Indian tribes clash over online poker proposal

With the budget storm quieted for now and the 2009 legislative session on the horizon, there is another brewing right behind it. A cooperative of Native American tribes and Cal card clubs are attempting to create their own offering for online poker. Rivals to the bill say that it could imperil the current status of tribal gambling in California. The opponents of the bill include the tribes of the California Tribal Business Alliance (or the CTBA) while the group attempting to bring online poker inside of America’s borders is the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
