Bad weather delays Shuttle landing

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- NASA officials waved off two landing attempts by the STS 113 shuttle Endeavour Dec. 4, delaying astronaut John Herrington's return to earth by at least a day. The next attempts to land could come at 2:54 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. (EST) Dec. 5, depending on local weather.

Even with further delays, the shuttle could still land in Florida on Dec. 6 or 7, but afterward it would be diverted to the back-up landing site at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

A decision on the first of the Dec. 5 landing attempts would have to be made shortly before 2 p.m. today.
