Timothy Johnson is the first enrolled member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe to play professional basketball. The rookie, who is also part Sioux from Standing Rock, recently joined the Arizona Scorpions, which is part of the American Basketball Association (SoCal).

“I look forward to being a part of the Arizona Scorpions organization,” he said in a news release. “The coaches and staff are great, and to be practicing and playing with the type of players on this team will be exciting, as well as a great experience. I am thankful for my family who has always supported me, my ‘home team.’”

Johnson played for the San Carlos Braves varsity basketball for four years and was an accomplished athlete. He was named player of the year twice, and part of the AIA All-Section team. He was also a starter in the First All-Star NABI team; and ranked one of the Top 100 High School Players in the U.S. by ScoutsFocus.

Bobby Rodriguez, CEO and general manager of the team, said, “The Arizona Scorpions are excited to have Tim as part of our organization, as a player and representative of the Native community. He is a good player and will contribute greatly.”

“This is just the beginning for me,” Johnson said. “I have faith in God and His promises, and I know the best is yet to come. Thank you everyone!”
