Kimberly Christen, Washington State University cultural anthropologist will discuss the Plateau Peoples’ Web Portal and Mukurtu Archive Project on the BBC radio program “Digital Planet” airing February 22.
According to a WSU news release, Christen is the Plateau Portal’s project director. The portal is an Internet-based gateway to cultural materials held in WSU’s Manuscripts, Archives and Special Collections, the Museum of Anthropology and public and private repositories.
Christen and a team of researchers developed the Mukurtu Archive, an open source, cultural heritage, content management and archive software tool. It allows indigenous communities to manage their cultural materials in concert with local customs and conventions.
“Digital Planet” is available by satellite and cable in Pullman, Washington, or online by podcast.
