Anderson on hold as BIA head

WASHINGTON - Holds have been placed on the Senate floor vote that would install Dave Anderson as the Interior Department's assistant secretary for Indian affairs at the BIA.

Paul Moorehead, spokesman on Indian affairs for Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, confirmed the holds, one of which has been widely reported. At least two senators have placed a hold on the Anderson vote, one from both sides of the aisle, Democrat and Republican, Moorehead said. He said the committee has not determined their names.

Anderson, founder of the Famous Dave's Barbeque Shack restaurant chain, did not respond to a request for comment left with his gatekeepers at Famous Dave's. Nominated to the BIA post by President Bush, he got through his confirmation hearing on a 13-0 vote of the Indian Affairs committee.
