WASHINGTON - The nomination of Ralph Beistline of Alaska to fill the opening on the U.S. District Court for Alaska was confimred by an overwhelming margin in a roll call vote yesterday.
The Senate voted 98 to 0, with two not voting, to approve the Beistline nomination. A simple majority of 50 percent is needed for confirmation according to the offical senate website.
Debate also continued in Congress today on the proposed energy bill. Several amendments were expected to be voted on concerning proposed drilling projects in Alaska and rural economic development, two issues of grave concern in Indian country.
