Activists call for bison on state land

At a public hearing Thursday night, a plan to place up to 88 wild bison on Ted Turner’s ranch west of Bozeman drew criticism from some who say the state didn’t do enough to find public or tribal land to house the animals. The hearing also showed many wildlife advocates are wary of allowing Turner to keep most of the bison’s offspring, saying the plan privatizes public wildlife and sets a dangerous precedent.
