Accident Surviving, Poop Rolling Tostito / aka Broke Butt

Lacey Jae Ohseraseiahawi Herne from the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation on the New York and Canada border sent us this picture of her 10 year old companion and awesome Chihuahua, Tostito. According to Lacey, Tostito is a Chihuahua that has survived a car accident and has metal hip plates and a tattoo to prove it. Not only that, Tostito, also known as Otkon (Devil) and Broke Butt, loves to roll in poop.

Dreadlock Sportin’ Max

Dreadlock Sportin’ Max is 5 years old and lives in Shiprock, New Mexico. He is part of the Navajo Nation. As a proud member of the Komondor Breed, Max is among a breed of dogs that are bred to take care of livestock against bears and wolfs.

According to the Perry family, Max, from Hungary, is the only dog that has dreadlocks as fur.

“He is a great family dog who just loves children, he stands at about 3.5 feet tall, our cats use him as a blanket,” says his owner James. Hey James, you got us thinking about rez cat pics now…

Here he is filling out the back of a mini-van. James says Max is looking for a snag.

Makateto / Black Eye Pea

Kendall Scott from the Kickapoo Indian Reservation in Eagle Pass, Texas sent us this cool pic of Makateto / Black Eye Pea. We’re guessing this rez pup is right in the middle of running from one spot to the next sporting a … wait is that a spur-shaped marking on your side or a cool rez tattoo?

Buddy

Felicia Alvarez (Eastern Shoshone) from the Wind River Reservation in Ft Washakie, Wyoming who now lives in Northglenn, Colorado and works at the Denver Art Museum, sent us this regal pic of her gorgeous rez pup Buddy.

According to Felicia, “(I) brought him home from my cousin’s house when he was 2 ½ months old – he is now 5 years old! He is all kinds of dog, smart, happy and has the coolest personality!!” You forgot amazingly photogenic Felicia!

Boyz Jones

Jeff Bear from the Skidegate Reservation on Haida Gwaii in the Pacific Northwest of Canada sent us this too cool photo of Boyz Jones, a four-year-old Schipperke Belgian water dog owned by both Jeff Bear (Maliseet) and Marianne Jones (Haida). As Boyz Jones looks poetically into the distance, Jeff says this awesome rez pup is contemplating a day on the beach. He also sports a too cool hat.

Fiona

Flicka Arquette on the Yakama Reservation in Wapato Washington sent us this very happy-looking rez pup pic of her springer spaniel mix Fiona. Flicka tells us she is a very sweet rez pup, but you didn’t have to tell us that – look at that rez pup happy smile!

Lady Gaga and Ocho Ohno

Cheryl Ford from Show Low, Arizona – a town between the Navajo and White Mountain Apache Reservations sent us her cool pics of her rescued rez pups Lady Gaga and Ocho Ohno. Cheryl tells us that Lady Gaga, a sweet girl who is also a relentless hunter and her rez pup buddy Ocho is a mellow fellow with short legs that can still run fast!

Cheryl also says that around Lady Gaga, “No mouse, snake, mole or bird is safe from her skillful hunting techniques,” and Ocho “would be embarrassed if anyone knew he was afraid of loud noises, especially thunder and sounds that might be gunshots.”

“Rez dogs are the best. I would have more, except there is no more room in the bed,” says Cheryl.
