Is it karma?

Some tickets to Sunday's Washington football team game against the St. Louis Rams at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, are going for a measly $4 while others are starting at $5.25, according to John Keim of ESPN NFL.

"That's quite a comedown for a franchise that always sold out thanks to a large and passionate fan base," Keim wrote.

Maybe the plummet in ticket prices has to do with the fact that a growing number of people -- celebrities, elected officials and former Washington team players -- have condemned the name as racist and called for it to be changed; or that team owner Dan Snyder has been derided as being a rich, white asshole; or that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in June concluded the name is "disparaging to Native Americans." Maybe all of the above. But what's not up for speculation is the history behind the word (it was used in the Indian scalp trade) and that the popularity of this dictionary-defined racial slur is plummeting almost as fast as the ticket prices.
