The 2016 American Indian Science and Engineering Society National Conference is coming up on November 10-12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
According to the website, there will be some 1,800 attendees and 200 exhibitors. Keynote speaker Evan Tlesla II Adams is a Coast Salish actor and physician from the Sliammon Band near Powell River, in British Columbia, Canada. He stars in the Emmy-winning TV movie “Lost in the Barrens” and its nominated sequel “Curse of the Viking Grave.” He won Best Actor awards from the American Indian Film Festival, and from First Americans in the Arts, as well as a 1999 Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance.
But he doesn’t just have a career in the arts, Adams is an alumnus of St. Michaels University School and of Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific. He has also finished three years of pre-med studies at the University of British Columbia. He has a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and he is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the First Nations Health Authority.
