2nd Annual Hawaiian Way Fund’s Benefit Basketball Tournament

Teams are being sought for a basketball tournament that will be held in Hawaii this summer. The second annual Hawaiian Way Fund's Benefit Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 19-21 in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

The adult tournament - all participating players must be at least 18 - will feature three divisions; men's, women's and a men's over-35.

The tournament is restricted to players of Indigenous or First Nations descent. Each team, however, can carry a maximum of two non-Indigenous players.

The entry fee is $375 per team. Those interested in taking part in the tournament, which will feature a double knockout format, must sign up before July 29.

The two finalists in each of the three divisions will more than make their registration fee back. The winning side in each grouping will be awarded $2,500 while the second-place team will receive $1,000 each.

Participants can also sign up for three-point contests that will be staged during the tournament. Both the female and male winners of these events will receive $500 each.

The tournament is run by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. Proceeds from the event go to the Hawaiian Way Fund, which enhances the well-being of Hawaii through initiatives in communities founded on Hawaiian culture, knowledge and traditions.
