12/02/08 - Cherokee company to manage landfill

A new company has been created by the Cherokee Nation’s business arm to manage its landfill in Adair county as well as explore recycling and green technologies.

Cherokee Nation Businesses was given control of the landfill, which was opened in 1982 and sits on tribal trust land, in March by the tribe’s Environmental Protection Commission on the stipulation that CNB agree to correct issues that had arisen under a third-party company that had managed the site, Indian Country Investments LLC.
