12/01/08 - Proposed Cowlitz casino concerns wary businesses

Critics of a proposed casino in La Center, Wash., could pry revenue from Portland-area hotels, restaurants and even the self-proclaimed “world’s classiest truck stop.”

The Cowlitz Indian Tribe’s $510 million project would sit just 25 minutes north of downtown Portland and contain a 250-room hotel, 24 rooms larger than the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Tribal interests developing the project could one day expand it to accommodate chain restaurants as The Cheesecake Factory.
