The best part of archaeology is "the discovery" -- not knowing what you'll find, said Ryan Rowles, the PennDOT archaeologist overseeing the dig that must come before the upcoming Freeport Bridge project.

The archaeological dig, which will be executed by the firm Skelly & Loy of Pittsburgh, begins today, and is expected to last four to six weeks, Rowles said.
