10/30/08 - Tribe leads preservation of Bear Valley Meadow

Bear Valley stretched out in golden waves behind Tsi-Akim tribal Chairman Don Ryberg as he waded through ankle-deep grasses where his ancestors hunted for hundreds - perhaps thousands - of years before the Gold Rush. Today, the meadow adjacent to Highway 20 near Bowman Lake Road is known by mountain bikers who tread across in summer and cross country skiers and snowshoers in the winter. All year long, cars and heavy diesel trucks rumble by.
