10/20/08 - Godfrey & Kahn hires former head of Bureau of Indian Affairs

In a move aimed at expanding its Indian Nations legal practice, Godfrey & Kahn SC has hired Carl Artman, former federal Bureau of Indian Affairs director, as a shareholder in its Milwaukee office. Artman, a member of the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin, who left the federal post in May after one year, said in an interview this week that he felt energized in returning to the private sector after bruising encounters with bureaucrats and politicians in Washington, D.C. Before heading the bureau, he served as its top attorney for 18 months.
