Two Seminoles stood facing each other on the fourth floor of the new courthouse in Flagler County. One was Circuit Judge Kim C. Hammond, a star quarterback who led the Florida State University Seminoles to victories. The other was a life-size statue, which evidence suggests is of Osceola, a Seminole leader who led the tribe in battles against the U.S. Army in Florida. "I have a partiality to Osceola and his history that is almost sacred ground for a Seminole from Florida State," Hammond said before walking out of his courtroom to look at the statue.
