Westerns were a cornerstone of living room entertainment during the 1950s and '60s, and on the big screen before that. Watching "The Lone Ranger" or "Wagon Train," you'd swear all cowboys were white and that the only role Native Americans played was attacking them or, in Tonto's case, serving as the brains behind the Lone Ranger.
